Our Retractable Screens

The Others

Amount of Screen

Our screen housing contains 54 inches of screen material, allowing plenty of extra screen fabric to absorb the impact in the event the screen gets walked through.

Others contain 40-45 inches of screen material; this can be a problem if the screen gets walked through, on a 36” wide door there would only be 4 to 9 inches of extra screen available. When walked through the screen unwinds absorbing the impact, with only 4 to 9 extra inches available, the screen is more likely to reach the end of the roll and be torn away from the core resulting in a costly repair.

Screen Cassette (Housing)

We have one of the smallest screen cassettes on the market (Approx.1½ inches in diameter) and it’s fully enclosed, the small size and enclosed design allow recessed mounting that will blend naturally to your door.

Other brand screen cassettes are large & bulky, and some are of a U shaped design, meaning the housing is left open on the backside, this design requires the housing to be surface mounted so that the screen-roll isn’t left exposed on the backside.

Recess mount

vs

Surface mount.

Recess mount design: This type of installation has the screen housing mounted inside of the doorframe, so it visually becomes a continuation of the trim. This makes for a much nicer looking installation; it will look as though it is from the factory as a part of the door.

Surface mount design: This type of installation requires the screen housing to be mounted on top of the trim that goes around your door. Covering up the decorative trim results in a bulky aftermarket look that will compromise the appearance of your door.

Keeping the bugs out!

Our screens are designed to keep all the bugs out, the top and bottom tracks have a double row of brushes that encase the screen fabric (Similar to how your car window rolls up between the felts) this insures that crawling insects are kept out of the home. Our screens also feature a full-length non-metal magnet from top to bottom on the door jamb, providing a solid grip & seal. All this provides a complete seal around your door, keeping all flying and crawling insects out!

Other brands the screen hangs loose on the top & bottom tracks, allowing insects to crawl past the screen and into your home. Many use small metal magnets to hold the screen to the jamb, these metal magnets are prone to corrosion and can lose their grip, allowing a gust of wind to unexpectedly open the screen.

Travel Clearance

Our screens pull-bar is a free-floating design that allows plenty of up and down clearance in its tracks. This design ensures smooth operation of the screen if the home or doorway experience any settling.

Many other screens pull-bars are fixed to the top & bottom tracks, if there’s any settling of the home or doorframe, the pull-bar can start to bind between the two tracks, resulting in sticking or restricted movement of the screen. This type of system often requires a frequent spray of silicone lubricant to operate smoothly. (NOTE: Never use WD-40 if you have one of these)

How well they handle walk-throughs

It Does Happen!

Our screens have a pull-bar that is flexible, and is a free-floating in the track design; when ran into the pull-bar can flex and will pop out of its tracks, saving it and the screen from damage. In the event of a walk-through, just re-insert the pull-bar into its tracks, and your screen is ready for use again without any repair bill.

Other designs are more prone to damage and repair when walked through because the screen pull-bar is rigid and fixed to the top & bottom tracks. When walked through, the pull-bar holds the screen in place, making the material more vulnerable to being damaged, along with possible breakage of the pull-bars mounting clips that connect it to the top & bottom tracks.

Bottom line…. if you’re planning to spend good money on a screen door.
It should be durable, look nice, and keep all the bugs out!
